Classic Fly-in Savute Safari Experience

Experience the contrasts of Botswana’s wilderness on this fascinating safari into the famous Savuti region of the Chobe National Park. Enjoy exciting game drives and bush walks led by knowledgeable guides, who will help you track down the wildlife of the region such as the Savuti Lions, and lone bull Elephants.

The Savute is famous for its river that suddenly stops flowing due to shifts in the Earth’s crust. From 2008 the river has flowed which has made the desert landscape lush once more. You should see several prides of Lion, Black-backed Jackal, Bat-eared Foxes, Tsessebe, Kudu, Impala, Giraffe and Ostriches on your game drives. During the summer months thousands of Zebra and other antelope species migrate to the area offering a feast for the local predators.

You can also set off on an expedition to the Gubatsa Hills which are the site of ancient San rock paintings. This rock art is thousands of years old and depicts the San’s cultural beliefs and interaction with the local animals. This is also a good place to try and see Leopard and small Klipspringer antelope.

Day 1: Johannesburg – Maun – Savute

On the first morning of your 3 day Classic Fly-in Savute Safari you will take a flight from Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport to Maun. Your Botswana tour starts with a light aircraft flight from Maun to the Savute airstrip.

After your arrival you will be welcomed, enjoy refreshments and have some time to relax, before heading out on your afternoon game drive to explore the area and see what game you come across. You’ll return to the safari lodge for refreshing sundowners before savouring a delicious bush dinner out on the deck. Tonight you’ll sleep in luxurious tented suites that overlook the Savute Channel.

Day 2: Savute

You will have an early start to the day as game viewing is best in the early morning. You will head out on interesting game drives which are conducted in open 4x4 vehicles. They are led by knowledgeable and experienced game guides who will tell you about the animals that you come across. The game drive will encompass the beautiful Savute Marsh, where in the wet summer months large herds of Zebra, Wildebeest and Buffalo gather. The region also has over 300 species of birds, including Carmine Bee-eaters and Kori Bustards.

In the dry winter months the wildlife concentrates along the river and you can see large herds of Elephants and prides of African Lion as well as Hyena. The area is also known for its regular sightings of African Wild Dogs. You’ll return to the safari lodge for a delicious brunch and enjoy some relaxation time. In the cool afternoon you will head out on another game drive. You may also visit the Gubatsa Hills where you can see San Bushmen paintings.

Day 3: Savute – Maun - Johannesburg

On your last day in the Savute you will enjoy one final early morning game drive for a last glimpse of the Lion or Elephant, followed by a delicious breakfast.

You will then catch your light aircraft flight back to Maun. From where you will take your connecting flight back to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport.

This Botswana fly-in package is based on a 3 day fly-in trip to the Savute airstrip for 2 guests sharing en-suite accommodation, all inclusive of meals and scheduled activities with flights ex/to Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport.

The Rates are based on the high season and may vary depending on the season and daily currency exchange rate. This package is not available between February and March; please ask us about an alternative option at this time. This Botswana tour can be also combined with a stay at the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve.
